Lot Essay

According to Leah Rosenblatt, the Joy of the Waters was developed during a lull in commissions for Frishmuth. Although she originally used her famed model Desha as the inspiration for the piece, Janette Ransome was the final model for this larger version. The larger-sized version bronze was cast in an edition of 65.

This design will be included in Leah Rosenblatt's forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the works of Harriet Whitney Frishmuth.
