Lot Essay

Fultala was the second of a pair of identical steamers built for the British India Steam Navigation Company by Doxford's at Sunderland in 1890. Registered at 4,156 tons gross (2,708 net), she measured 366 feet in length with a 48 foot beam and was engined by her builders with a cruising speed of 11 knots. Completed in December 1890, she entered service on the company's main Indian route where she remained, apart from brief trooping charters in 1900, 1904 and 1914, until scrapped in Bombay in 1923.
