crafted in the form of a Royal Naval ratings straw hat, the blue enamel band with yachts name is tied in a bow which contains suspension ring, hinged crown stamped '18' with glazed keepsake and lock of hair the underside containing a compass with blued steel needle and bevelled glass guard -- 1in. (2.5cm.) diameter

Lot Essay

The most plausible suggestion for this unusual souvenir is that on the death of his mother, the rather more amused King Edward VII commissioned an unknown number of these witty-yet-elegant pendants which could be presented to his lady guests aboard his newly assumed yacht.
