A 19TH CENTURY DIORAMA DEPICTING THE FIRST 'AMERICA'S CUP' YACHT RACE, INCLUDING A VESSEL OF THE ROYAL YACHT SQUADRON AND AMERICA HERSELF
each with masts, carved sails painted white with stitching and reefing points, rigging with blocks, simple deck fittings including open dinghy, winches, companionways, carved sailors [R.Y.S. in blue, U.S. in red], and other details. The hulls with rudders finished in black and 'copper' below the waterline and set in a painted moulded seascape having rounded a red and white lighthouse, each depicted on a port-reach with the R.Y.S. vessel leading, within a woodbound glazed case (R.Y.S. vessel with loose gib, some rigging detached). Overall measurements -- 16 x 28¼in. (40.5 x 72cm.)
