A FINE EARLY 19TH CENTURY NAPOLEONIC FRENCH PRISONER-OF-WAR BONE AND BALEEN MODEL OF AN 88-GUN SECOND-RATE SHIP-OF-THE-LINE
with bound masts, yards with stun's'l booms, standing and running rigging with bone blocks, warrior-form figurehead holding laurels, head rail panels with mermaids carved in relief, catheads with bone anchors, main rail, belaying rails, capstan, water barrels, metal stove pipes, well deck with ballustrading, gratings and covered hatch, hammock racks, belfry, companionways, poop deck with saloon lights and chicken coops. The planked and pinned hull with finely carved stern and quarter gallerys, baleen main and secondary wales, gun ports with metal guns protuding, two beaded gun-retracting pulls and rudder, is mounted on two turned bone colums secured to plush display base with legend, within a brass bound glazed display case. The model -- 17½ x 25½in. (44.5 x 65cm.); Measurements overall -- 24 x 30in. (61 x 76.2cm.)
