A SET OF SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND JEWELRY
Mrs. Marajen Stevick Chinigo was a prominent Champaign, Illinois businesswoman, as well as a philanthropist and widely exhibited artist. Owner and publisher of The Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette, which had belonged to her family since 1915, Mrs. Chinigo also owned the radio stations WDWS-AM and WHMS-FM among other businesses. Mrs. Chinigo was widely honored for her business and philanthropic activities. The News-Gazette was the recipient of hundreds of state and national awards, and Mrs. Chinigo's leadership likewise acknowledged. She was the recipient of the Alpha Gamma Delta National "Distinguished Citizen Award", the American Friends of Hebrew University "Women of Achievement Award", the "Community Builders Award" from Western Star Lodge, and the Presidents Award from the National Association of Directors of the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program. In addition to her civic success, Mrs. Chinigo was an accomplished artist. Her oil paintings decorated the walls of her businesses as well as her homes. They have been exhibited in the U.S. and in Europe. Her love of beauty was apparent in the homes she divided her time among: a family home in Champaign, IL, a winter home in Palm Springs, FL and an Italian villa, "Torre di Civita". This restored 12th century monastery overlooking the Salerno Bay in Ravello Township was the home she shared with her late husband Michael for nearly two decades. Property from the Estate of Marajen Stevick Chinigo
