Born into an artistic family, British artist Valentine Bromley traveled with the Earl of Dunraven in 1874 to the Western United States on a hunting expedition. Bromley was originally commissioned to make illustrations for a book documenting the trip. He created many sketches and studies of the Native American life he encountered, including Crow Family on the Trail, where the artist displays his sensitivity of subject through his skillful draftsmanship and delicate use of watercolor.
