Lot Essay

The Curragh, 35 miles south of Dublin, is the most famous racecourse in Ireland. Edwards visited Ireland many times, remarking in his autobiography: 'As an artist, Irish country strikes one as of beauty unsurpassed' (Reminiscences of a Sporting Artist, London, 1947, p. 77).
