更多詳情
Hugh Lupas was created Earl of Chester by his uncle William the Conqueror. The new Earl marched toward Chester and eventually took the city after being repulsed three times. Hugh began work on rebuilding the walls and the castle. He died in 1101. As further protection the Lupas family would give the manor of Tilston to a Norman Knight named Eynion.
In 1723 Hugh's remains were found in the Chapter House of Chester Cathedral; wrapped in leather and encased in stone they had remained undisturbed for six hundred years. At the head of the coffin was a stone inscribed with his name. His sword, nearly four feet long, now resides in the British Museum.
