The gilt brass movement with verge escapement, chain fusee, chased and engraved floral decoration to the cock and foot, tapered cylindrical pillars, quarter hour and hour striking on mounted bell, maker engraved gilt brass dust cap, the white enamel dial with outer seconds track and sweep center seconds, three subsidiary dials indicating the hour and minutes with Roman numerals and spade hands, ages of the moon and strike/silent setting, all hinged within a circular inner case with finely detailed pierced and engraved floral and scroll decoration to the band, the reverse centered by engraved floral motif and bordered by floral and scroll decoration, the outer case with pear and paste-set bezel, bordered by finely detailed chased, engraved and pierced foliage and scroll decoration, the reverse centered by foliage and urn decoration, bordered by continuous engraved scroll and foliage decoration and similarly decorated pierced rim, cuvette and movement signed and numbered

Lot Essay

The present lot strikes two brief notes at quarter past the hour, four brief notes at half past the hour and six brief notes at three-quarters past the hour. Only on the hour does the watch strike the corresponding number of hours as displayed on the dial.
