MOUTON-ROTHSCHILD

Originally known as Château Brane-Mouton until is was purchased in 1853 by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild at which point its name was changed to Mouton-Rothschild. Having said that, it was occassionally labelled simply as Mouton until the very late ninteeth century by numerous Bordeaux négociants.

Failing to classify as a first growth in the 1855 classification it was not until the arrival of the young Baron Philippe (then 20 years old) in 1922 that someone from the family actually took an active and first hand interest in the property.

Finally after more than 50 years of love, dedication and persistance, in 1973 Mouton-Rothschild was elevated to first growth status. A position that most agree, both then and now, it should have held from day one.

Among the many greats offered here are over 7 cases of the magnificent 1982 and 20 cases of the now very fine 1991.
