Lot Essay

Based on the Biblical verse Luke, chapter XIII verse 7, the allegorical scene depicts the Hieroglyphicks of a Christian, which reveals the fruits of faith warmed by grace and nurtured and protected from evil by heaven's angels while contrasted on the right with Wrath, the bare tree with traits of an un-godly lifestyle such as "Jealousy," "Adultry" and "Unkindness." For a similar example see Christie's, New York, 5 October 2000, lot 1.
