by Jean-Antoine Joubert (fl. 1777-1791), marked, Paris 1779/1780, with the charge and discharge marks of Jean-Baptiste Fouache 1774-1780, the counter-mark of Henry Clavel 1780-1782, the French Provincial census mark for the South Division 1819-1838 and the French post-1838 re-mark, later struck with two Parisian post-1838 restricted warranty marks for gold
Slightly tapering polished gold étui of oval section, with engraved borders, the matted border bands chased with laurel and berry festoons and fluted circles containing flowerheads divided by the shaft, the domed cap topped by a foliate rosette, bright-cut raised rims, the matrix engraved with an impaled coat-of-arms with count's coronet and motto NON COEDIBUS EMPTA above and a laurel wreath around
