A LOUIS XVI TWO-COLOUR GOLD SNUFF-BOX SET WITH AN ENAMEL MINIATURE
by Joseph-André Bologniel-Présidant (fl. 1778-1793), marked, Paris, 1784/1789, with the second charge and discharge marks of Henry Clavel 1782-1789, the enamel miniature later
Oval box, the cover, sides and base with panels of horizontally reeded engine-turning scattered with stars, within fluted borders, the lid set with an oval enamel miniature depicting a high-ranking officer in gold-braided dark green uniform with red collar, wearing numerous orders, powdered hair, within a two-colour gold ropetwist frame, the sablé borders identically decorated, the four side pilasters hung with laurel swags
