Marc Rosenberg (Der Goldschmiede Merkzeichen, Berlin, 1922-1928, vol. IV, no. 7959) mentions an octagonal striated agate snuff-box with gold-mounts by Dudeum, in the collection of the Grand Duke of Baden, of 1805 (sold Sotheby's, Baden-Baden, October 1995, lot 1984), and another oval gold-mounted hardstone snuff-box. A gold-mounted bloodstone box by him was sold Christie's, Geneva, 19 May 1992, lot 2 and for a lapis-lazuli box very similar to the present box, see Christie's, London, 28 May 2002, lot 273.
