A SWISS ENAMELLED GOLD SNUFF-BOX
Geneva, circa 1800, with prestige marks, the flange struck with inventory no. '3949'
Rectangular gold box with rounded corners, the cover, four sides and base engine-turned with a chequer pattern within fluted gold and blue enamelled borders, the outer borders enamelled in opaque white and engraved with a band of linked ovals en taille d'épargne, the cover centred by a blue-bordered hemispherical reserve painted en plein on a reeded concentrical engine-turned ground with a scene of a gallant and lady under a tree in a mountainous riverside landscape with opalescent oyster-pink sky, bright-cut gold rims with incorporated very slightly raised thumbpiece
