signed and dated 'F: Schöpfer 1807.' (lower right) and on the backing paper 'Françoise Schöpfer 1807'
oval, 4 15/16 in. (125 mm.) high, ormolu frame with inner beaded border and foliate cresting with central rosette, the reverse of the frame inscribed 'Mme la Csse Thérèse D'appony ma bonne et sainte Maîtresse'.

The sitter may either be Countess Therese Apponyi née von Nogarola (b. 1790), married in 1808 to Count Anton Apponyi, Imperial ambassador in Paris, or Countess Therese Apponyi née Serbelloni (b. 1782), married in 1805 to Count Joseph Apponyi as his second wife.
