A SWISS ENAMELLED GOLD SNUFF-BOX FOR THE ORIENTAL MARKET
Geneva, circa 1840, later struck with two French post-1893 import marks for gold
Oval flattened box with lobed outlines, the cover and base centred with a shuttle-shaped panel colourfully enamelled with a bunch of flowers on a translucent green radiant fishbone guilloché ground, surrounded by radiating slightly domed similarly enamelled panels alternating with oyster-pink enamelled beams painted with flowersprays, all beams framed by opaque white enamel stripes and divided by gold flutes, at the inside pale blue enamelled lobed wavy flange centred by translucent red enamelled pellets, similarly enamelled hinge
