AN EGYPTIAN SANDSTONE RELIEF
Ptolemaic to Roman Period,
304 B.C.-Circa 200 A.D.
Sculpted in sunk relief, depicting a pharaoh to the left, wearing a kilt, broad collar, false beard and crown, traces of two apparently-blank cartouches above, standing before an offering table with two columns of hieroglyphic text reading, "offering incense and libations to his father who created, given life," the text in the second column in retrograde referring to the seated god before him, the god with an atef-crown, was-sceptor and ankh sign, with three imperfectly-preserved columns of hieroglyphic text above naming him as "the king of the gods," to the right a goddess wearing a tightly-fitted sheath, an imperfectly-preserved inscription before her reading "granting the king as coming and going"
