A ROMAN BRONZE FIGURE OF MERCURY
Circa 1st-2nd Century A.D.
Inspired by a fifth century B.C. original by Polykleitos, the god well-modeled, standing with his weight on his right leg, his left leg relaxed with his knee bent, nude but for a mantle fastened at his right shoulder, draped across his chest and falling along his side and left arm, the arm bent at the elbow with his palm open, his right arm held out to his side with his money bag in his hand, his head angled down and slightly to the right, a laurel wreath in his short curly hair
