A ROMAN MARBLE FIGURE OF PAN
Circa 1st-2nd Century A.D.
The goat-legged god depicted nude, seated with his left leg extended to the side and his right leg folded before him, his torso twisted to his right, leaning to his right and supporting himself on his lowered right hand which clutches his pedum or shepherd's staff, on an integral plinth with a concave outer edge, once part of a larger composition, preserving the right leg of a standing figure, presumably Dionysus, and a tree-trunk support, some traces of original pigment on Pan's leg
