LORY, Gabriel, the younger (1784-1846). Souvenir de la Suisse: ou Recueil de vues remarquables pour faire suite au voyage pittoresque dans l'Oberland bernois. Neuchatel: C-H. Wolfrath, 1829.
2° (518 x 365mm). 37 hand-coloured aquatint plates after Lory, 35 by J. Hürlimann, 2 by C. Rordorff, and 6 engraved plates with the same views in outline. Contemporary green half morocco and mottled boards, gilt spine directly lettered (extremities rubbed).
FIRST EDITION. Lory the younger surpassed even his father as a specialist in the art of the Alpine view, combining a microscopic accuracy with strong romantic feeling in this rare and sumptuous work. ABPC does not record any copy of the first edition selling at auction since 1979. The work was reprinted in reduced format in 1860. Lonchamp 1856; Mandach p. 148.
