A large green ground Hirado cistern and cover
19th century
the finial modelled as a seated karashishi with one paw resting upon a brocade ball, the body moulded in relief and painted in underglaze blue, white and slight brown enamels with a multitude of peony sprays and foliage, the reverse with moulded inscription, set on five shaped feet -- 25½in. (64.8cms) high, (restoration to tip of karashishi tail and minute nibble to one ear).
