Lot Essay

Solomon executed a series of works during the 1860s depicting good looking priests in the context of Jewish, Greek, Orthodox or Anglo-Catholic rites. In particular Solomon was fascinated by the Roman Catholic and High Anglican Church. In later life, when he was shunned by society after his arrest for 'gross indecency' in 1873, he found shelter and consolation at the Carmelite Church on Kensington Church Street, London.
