Lot Essay

Fraser was a Bedford landscape painter who specialised in river views, mostly in the South of England. His image of the flooded fens, with silver birch in the foreground, is unusually linear and strong. He accentuates his customary rectilinear format, which in itself emphasises the still breadth of the waterlogged landscape.
