A PAIR OF FRENCH ORMOLU-MOUNTED GREEN-GROUND SEVRES PORCELAIN POT-POURRI VASES AND COVERS
First half 19th Century
Each with a domed lid surmounted by a pomegranate finial, above a pierced foliate frieze, the ovoid-shaped body flanked to each side by a foliate handle, on a circular socle and a shaped square base, minor variations in size and shape of the porcelain, one lid with crack, one with restored break

Lot Essay

An almost identical pair, also with apple-green ground, was sold from the collection of the Late Earl of Sefton, Christie's house sale, Croxteth Hall, Liverpool, 17-20 September 1973, lot 908 and again anonymously, in these Rooms, 5 July 1984, lot 12. Another closely related pair, though with bleu céleste ground, was sold from the Elisabeth Parke Firestone collection, Christie's New York, 23 March 1991, lot 875 ($25,300) and again as property of a distinguished private collector, Christie's New York, 22 May 2002, lot 311 ($28,680).
