Venetian, 17th century
Each with six figures arranged in pyramidal form; on an integrally cast tripartite plinth and an elaborate tripartite base cast with strap work, caryatids and grotesque masks.
The base with a dark brown patina and lighter high points; the acrobats re-gilt.

A variant of the present bronzes is illustrated in Gibbon (op. cit) but lacking the elaborately modelled bases. This single pyramidal group, in a private collection, Paris, is attributed to mannerist sculptor Niccolo Roccatagliata (1593-1636).
