Lot Essay

The Chrysler Building was designed by William Van Alen, 1928-1930, for the automative magnate and entrepreneur, Walter P. Chrysler. For a brief time, its 177 stories of shinny steel cladding with its abstract autombile forms stood as the tallest building on the New York skyline, and as a powerful symbol of the Modern age.
