Lot Essay

An accomplished Parisian painter of elegant portraits and reflective landscapes, Bernard Boutet de Monvel trained under the watchful eye of his father, Maurice, as well as Luc-Olivier Merson and Jean Dampt. His work was featured at the 1910 Brussels Exposition Universelle et Internationale, at the Salons of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, the Salons d'Automne, and at the Paris 1925 Exhibition.
