Decorated at the centre primarily en grisaille with two ships with enamelled Dutch flags and a smaller vessel sailing into Capetown Harbour with Table Mountain, Devil's Peak and Signal Hill in the distance, below a grisaille and gilt du Paquier-style border, minor rim chips

Several versions of this scene were made between circa 1740 and 1770. See Hervouët and Bruneau, La Porcelaine des Compagnies des Indes à Décor Occidental, Paris, 1986, pp. 38 and 39, figs. 2.5-2.10 for examples; fig. 2.6 is very similar to the present lot.
