There are at least two services with this design, although the present example with the gilt shell-scroll border appears to be the rarer. The other service has a du Paquier-style border and includes the initials D.M.L. below the portrait. The design for this plate was taken from an engraving by Frans Brun, which was used on the title page of a Dutch Lutheran bible published in 1648. See the following lot for a slightly earlier service after a different engraving. A plate with the du Paquier border from the collection of Dr Anton C. R. Dreesmann was sold in these Rooms, 10 April 2002, lot 436.
