This is a scene from the Ovid copying an engraving by S. Le Clerc. Cephalus and Procris are newly married, but suspect each other for being unfaithful. Procris is accidentally killed by Cephalus using a spear given to him by his wife. This tale was a popular moralist theme warning spouses of the dangers of suspecting unfaithfulness. Another saucer is illustrated by Hervouët and Bruneau, La Porcelaine des Compagnies des Indes à Décor Occidental, Paris, 1986, p. 309, fig. 13.70.
