Lot Essay

There are several extant examples of Karapinar ascending multiple arch rugs documented. This example displays a wonderful proportion of the arch elements to the field creating a dynamic positive-negative effect. For two similar examples please see Dodds, D., Oriental Rugs from Oriental Collections, Philadelphia, 1996, p.57, no. 57 and Bruggemann, W. and Bohmer, H., Rugs of the Peasants and Nomads of Anatolia, Munich, 1983, p.200, pl. 46.
