Lot Essay

It is very rare to find a blue and white ewer of this form and design. A comparable blue and white piece, excavated in Egypt in the early 20th century, which has very similar form to the present lot but painted with ducks in a lotus pond under willow trees, is illustrated in Misugi, Chinese Porcelain in the Near East, Topkapi and Ardebil, Hong Kong, 1981, vol. 1, p. 37 (top).
