With determined expression, ready for combat with right hand grasping a spear and a large, striped rectangular shield in the other, with hefty shoudlers pulled backward, his elongated head thrown back dramatically, the facial features outlined in black, wearing a tightly-fitted shirt, hatched headband and scoop trunks, with decorative details in reddish brown and black.

In Nayarit, Jalisco and Colima, the figures of warriors are ubiquitous. Though there are distinct, local differences in their renderings in West Mexico, its standardization indicated the importance of raiding and small-scale warfare, the rise of powerful chieftains and the importance of tomb sculptures in commemorating military ritual.
