Cf. Garrard, T., Gold of Africa, Geneva, 1989, p.197, pl.52, figs.1-7. According to the author the crescent moon occurs frequently in metalwork from Burkina Faso, Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire. In Ghana, such pendants were made of hammered silver and gold, and worn round the neck by priests of Tano. In south-eastern Côte d'Ivoire the were cast in gold, and used as hair ornaments and in public displays of wealth.
