Signed Jokyo and Shukyo, Meiji-Taisho Period (about 1910-1918)
Representing a traditional boat with a removable straw canopy, the hull of shibuichi or pale bronze, with a shakudo oar attached by gilt rope, the incense-wood container of silver, stamped Jungin [pure silver], the cover of bronze or copper, surmounted by a removable bird of silver, shakudo and copper, signed on the base on two adjacent silver plaques Jokyo so and Shukyo kizamu [modelled by Jokyo and chiselled by Shukyo]

Tsukada Shukyo or Hidechika (1848-1918) was adopted by the metalworker Hata Naokane and also studied with Shibata Zeshin and Kano Natsuo. In 1913 he was named Teishitsu Gigeiin [Artist to the Imperial Household].
