Signed Makuzu Kozan, Meiji Period (19th Century)
With a wide body, tall foot and neck and wide mouth, applied with two handles surmounted by fish-shaped finials, each side of the body with a large oval panel depicting shishi and peonies in underglaze blue, the two panels connected by a band of tessen no hana scrolls, the foot with a band of ascending lappets, the mouth with a band of descending chequer and floral motifs, the remainder of the surface with a yellow glaze, signed on the base in underglaze blue Makuzu Kozan sei [manufactured by Makuzu Kozan] (Miyagawa Kozan, 1842-1916), with signed fitted wood box
