Of black-lacquered wood with inlay of underpainted shell, consisting of a shallow vertical cabinet with a drop front containing a rack for holding correspondence, the cabinet supported on two legs with transverse legs connected by a stretcher, the exceptionally elaborate decoration depicting a variety of bird and flower motifs including Chinese pheasants with chrysanthemums and other blooms, the elaborate metal mounts engraved with further floral designs, some damage
