The scalloped rectangular border worked in fine silver filigree over a gilt and gold-lacquer ground, the angles between the sides embellished with enamelled floral motifs, the middle of each side occupied by a gold-lacquered cusped reserve with floral motifs in shell, horn, coral and other materials, the central panel decorated in high relief of stained ivory, shell and other materials with a party of travellers in a ferry-boat beneath a flowering cherry-tree, the foreground and background carved, incised and stained with respectively a fence and a party visiting a shrine, the edge of the tray fitted with a silver rim, the reverse of gold nashiji lacquer with four scalloped low bracket feet, signed in the centre on a silver reserve Mitsushige
