A Black Raku Chawan [Tea-Bowl] and Two Others
Edo-Meiji Period (Mid-Late 19th Century)
The first of low-fired, lead-glazed pottery, the somewhat roughly potted body with a black glaze covering the entire bowl, the second of low-fired, lead-glazed pottery, the irregularly-potted body with an uneven rim and slightly facetted sides, covered in a reddish and black glaze, the third of low-fired, lead-glazed pottery, the carefully-finished body with a slight circumferential groove around the exterior, the smooth black glaze covering the entire bowl with the exception of a small area around the low foot, stamped to the side of the foot with the character Raku, with an old French label
3 3/8in. (8.5cm.), 3 3/8in. (8.6cm.) and 3in. (7.6cm.) high respectively (3)
