[NEW YORK COLONY -- LONG ISLAND]. Manuscript document, an indenture recording the sale of land on Long Island near Oyster Bay, New York, 18 October 1666. 1 page, oblong (17¼ x 22¼ in.), two seals impressed in black wax at bottom, some dampstaining, horizontal fold separation repaired on verso. AN EXTREMELY EARLY LONG ISLAND DEED A large indenture recording the sale of land on the as yet very sparsely settled north shore of Long Island, between Oyster Bay and Huntington. John Richbell and his wife agree to "the sume of [£450] of good & lawfull money of England" to sell "all that Neck or Tract of Land commonly called & known by by the name of Horse Neck lying & being upon the Sound on the North side...bounded to the west with Oyster bay, to the east with Boro harbour." This is by a considerable margin the earliest Long Island deed offered at auction in some 25 years.
