Oblong 4o (189 x 275 mm). Engraved title and 87 engraved maps, views, charts and other subjects (title and last map 28 with perforated stamp, bound out of sequence, browing and staining heavier at end, few maps trimmed close). Modern vellum; slipcase.

A collection of maps which illustrates the war between Turkey and Venice (1570-73), comprising maps of the coasts and of the most important ports of Austria, Turkey, Greece, and of principal islands of the Mediterranean sea, also of Italy, England, Ireland and Iceland. "During the middle of the 16th-century map printing reached a high development in Italy, especially Venice" (Phillips). Maps for this atlas were first printed on individual sheets and later as collections with a title-page. This copy agrees closely with the copy described in Phillips, but with varying arrangement of the maps. Most of the maps in this copy are numbered and bound out of sequence.
