2o (538 x 402 mm). Engraved title and 108 engraved maps, hand-colored in outline. (Minor marginal dampstaining to some plates, small library mark to first leaf.) 19th-century red half morocco (hinges cracked, light wear to edges).

The maps in this atlas include 12 on ancient geography (nos 1-12); the remainder are of various parts of the world. The Atlas Universel was Robert de Vaugondy's principal atlas first published in 1750, soon after he had set up in business in Paris. In 1760 he was appointed Royal Geographer to the French court.
