LIMITED EDITION, one of 150 copies on papier-vélin with the plates before the letters. Prud'hon (1758-1823) distinguished himself as court portraitist and decorator for Napoleon. His illustrations to Bernard's Oeuvres reflect the Italian influence of Antonio Canova, da Vinci and Corregio, all of whose works introduced softer, more sensual effect into his compositions.
