Brown morocco, covers with inset cuir-ciselé calf panels incorporating grotesque figures surrounded by stylized foliage, spine in six compartments, with five raised bands, original wrappers bound in, marbled endpapers, edges gilt, stamp signed on front turn in: "E. Quinet MCCCLXXXIII." Provenance: Estelle Doheny (morocco bookplate).
