FIRST EDITION, THE VERY RARE FIRST ISSUE (roughly six or seven copies are known) with the dedication reading "The Boys & Christina" instead of "To Borys and Christina" (Conrad's son and Ford's daughter); after the error was discovered the dedication leaf was cancelled and a corrected leaf substituted; the (preferred) binding variant with the sky on the front cover in gilt rather than uncolored; the English edition appeared a month after the American. The first Conrad-Ford collaboration and their only science fiction work (Ford did most of the writing). In this novel, which combines science fiction with political satire, Earth is invaded by the Dimensionists, an advance humanoid race from the planet's future, which co-exists with the present as an alternate universe on a different time plane.
