Of rectangular section, with rams' heads at the angles beneath the platform, Bacchic masks to the front and back of the baluster shaft, and monopodial winged lions at the angles above the base

COMPARATIVE LITERATURE:

Ancient Roman examples containing similar motifs but in differing combinations were recorded by Giovani Battista Piranesi in his 1778 publication Vasi, candelabri, cippi, sarcofagi, tripodi, lucerne, ed ornamenti antichi disegnati ed incisi dal Cav.
