A blue and white eight-lobed jar
Late Ming, circa 1600-40
painted overall with squirrels climbing amongst gourd vines, the neck with a key fret band -- 7½in. (19cms) high.
See Illustration.

For an example of this type see 'Ming Ceramics In The British Museum', J. Harrison-Hall, page 292, plate 11:38. The squirrel and vine are traditionally regarded as symbols of fecundity and the motif was particularly popular in the Ming and Qing periods for decorative objects.
