Lot Essay

The broc 'nouvelle forme', as it was first called, was first introduced in November 1753 and from June 1754 was called broc 'Roussel'. It was made in three sizes, of which the present lot is the second size, and was combined with six different types of basin. For a full discussion of this form, see Rosalind Savill, The Wallace Collection, Catalogue of Sèvres Porcelain (London, 1988), pp. 697-698.
